DAUGHTERS

I am a mother, wife, friend, and sister.  But before I was any of those, I was first a daughter.

Definition of DAUGHTER

a : a female offspring especially of human parents
b : a female adopted child
c : a human female descendant

I love reading definitions of such common, ordinary words.  I want to focus on the words "adopted" and "descendant" from this definition. To be adopted means one has been "taken by choice into a relationship". And to be a descendant means one came from another.  These definitions are not weighty in and of themselves, but if we think of them in spiritual perspectives of being daughters of God. Oh, how the weight of these words exponentially increases!
In Ephesians 1, Scripture tells us that as those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, we are adopted by God, heirs to His Kingdom.  Some of you hear this idea daily, some of you don't.  Either way, this is an incredible truth to receive.  God chose to enter into relationship with us; we are adopted.  And by nature of being a part of God's family, we are descendants of His lineage.  Descendants are heirs, heirs receive an inheritance.  So, what is our inheritance?  Well, I am so tempted to answer plainly, but I want to challenge you to ask God.  Give Him an ear to hear what He has waiting for you!  Scripture is full of stories, illustrations and explanations of our inheritance.
It is so important to remember that as daughters (and sons), we are heirs.  We do not have to steal, cheat or take our inheritance.  It is something we are simply able to receive when our Father deems the right time.  We, as the heir, have no offensive action to take.  We simply respond.  So, ask God what specific treasures He has saved for your inheritance.  And know, that we will all receive spiritual gifts, favor, blessing, revelation, and intimacy with God as part of our inheritance.
And today I rejoice!  I am adopted by God.  A descendant of royal blood.  An heir to Christ. I am a daughter of the Most High King.  And I choose to live a life of royal legacy; a life of purity, love, kindness, honor, integrity, confidence, humility, boldness, compassion, grace.
